THE RIGHT AGE TO GET MARRIED

I'm not the type of person who is looking to get married, have kids and form a family. I don't believe in god and I don't like kids, so I'm 100% sure that I don't want that life. But if I have to say what age I think is the right age to get married, I would say between your mid-twenties and your thirties, because I think that you will be more prepared for that type of commitment. Before that, I think too soon because you are a teen, and after that is like, why would you do it, I mean if you are in a relationship for so long, and no one has decided to do that step, why would you do it just because? But, to be honest, the only thing that I like about weddings, is the party, the dress, and the honeymoon, because it would be the perfect excuse to make a big trip. (21 minutes)

PRACTICE 9: ANALYSIS OF A TED TALK

KEN ROBINSON/ SCHOOLS KILLS CREATIVITY  • 1. What’s the topic of the TED talk? What’s the main idea? When does the speaker introduce his idea? How?  The topics of this talk are education and human creativity. The main idea is that education has to be on the same level of importance that creativity. In the beginning, after a little bit of introduction. • 2. What are the means of support used by the speaker to convince us that his opinion is right? Provide examples. Telling us about his own experiences, with a little humour so the listener would follow the talk. For example, he tells us a story from when 3 children had to play the role of The 3 Wise Kings and the last one doesn't know what he had to say, and he says exactly what the adult just told him, by telling us this he tries to tell us that kids are not afraid of making mistakes, and that is important to be prepared to make mistakes and be creative.  • 3. What’s the speaker’s conclusion? How does he “conclude”? The co...

USING EMAIL

I've been always the type of person who didn't use email, and, nowadays, I am still not that person. I checked all the time but I never sent anything, because I use Whatsapp or Imessages. The reason why I check my email every time is that  I do a lot of online shopping so they sent me emails telling me, where my package is and long is it going to take to arrive. In my opinion, emails are a good way to communicate when you work in a big company, and you have to communicate with other companies because obviously, you are not going to do that via Whatsapp. What my generation use more is Instagram, because it is an app very complete, you can make video calls, you can ent videos and photos, you can upload photos etc; also we are very into TikTok, it doesn't have anything to do with messages but its very entertainment. (25 minutes)

AN ACCIDENT

One day I was on the beach with some friends, and we decided to go on these little boats that you rent and you have to drive them to move, so we went into the sea, and we were laughing listening to music when we stop and people started to jump, and move etc. So I was the only one who was bringing her phone because I wanted to take pictures and put the music. But then one of my friends started to jump in the boat, and I was trying to put my phone in the only safe and dry space in that little boat when I felt with phone in my hands, quickly the try to get me out of the water and my phone too. I was lucky because I didn't let my phone go went deep into the sea, but it was super wet. We had like 10 minutes left, but we ended up leaving early just to put the phone in some rice; after some hour my phone was completely dry and functional. I was so scared, my parents were going to kill me because that phone was almost new and it wasn't cheap. But it was just a stressful moment because ...

CELL PHONES

One thing I can't ever lose is my cell phone. I have everything on it, passwords, my credit card, and obviously, personal stuff like photos, texts etc. I was 11 years old when my parents gave me my first phone, well, it wasn't my personal phone because I shared it with my mom. I used the device to watch youtube videos, upload photos in 'tuenti', and talk to my friends. It was a small sony Xperia in white, and I was in love with it; then, when I was in my freshman year, my parents bought me a phone, and I survived with that one until my 15th birthday. They make me a party, and people gave me money and with that money, I was able to buy a more new and functional phone. And 2 years after, with my savings, I bought my actual phone, which is an iPhone SE. If I'm being honest, I can't live without my phone, I know it sounds ridiculous, but I have literally everything there, and also I have to communicate with my family and search for information etc. I think nowaday...

PRACTICE 11: PROBLEM-SOLUTION PARAGRAPHS

PRACTICE 10: ARGUMENTS AND DISCUSSION

A BIG MISTAKE YOU ONCE MADE

I'm not the type of person who regrets doing something, I'm the type who regrets not doing it. But in my senior year in high school, I was super lost and I didn't know what to do in the future. And when the time arrived, and I was obligated to choose a major I decided to do business management. I choose that one because I did the social science bachillerato, and because I was taking econ I was like ok maybe this is a good idea, plot twist, it wasn't. I ended up having the worst year ever, I didn't fit the class, I didn't like the subject, and also I wasn't facing a good situation myself, with self-esteem, food etc. So if I have the chance to go back a¡in time and change that decision I would definitely do it. I hate the feeling of knowing that I could be doing this major, and actually have an interest in the degree. But now I'm doing pretty good, I have amazing friends and I like all the subjects, some are difficult, but because now I like what I am doi...

PRACTICE 8: PUNCTUATION

Mum-of-three, 45, found dead two hours after GP told her he would ‘call back tomorrow’ She revealed she was feeling "stressed" and "unwell" and "thinking about killing herself". But the medic failed to refer Clare to the mental health team as she had been drinking - despite the mum-of-three saying she would hang herself. Just two hours later, she was discovered dead by her son's girlfriend at her home in Caernarfon, North Wales. An inquest into her death heard how Clare had a "poor history of mental health", which had "worsened" during the lockdown. Her daughter Kimberley said: "Mam begged the doctor to do something but she was told to wait until the next day. EDITING PRACTICE: 1  People are more likely to live long enough to get old in wealthy countries than in poor countries. In rich countries, people have nutritious food, modern medical care, good sanitation, and clean drinking water, but poor countries lack these things. ...

AMERICAN CUSTOM I LIKE

When I was young I thought that my school life was going to be like in the movies I used to watch, but I was so far from reality. The only thing I've always wanted was to have a prom party, get really good dressed take some pics and have a big party. Every year, I watch videos of American girls getting ready for prom, from their hair to their dresses. In my last year of high school, we were going to have our graduation, but due to covid, we ended up not having anything it was really sad news to me. But I know that my graduation was not going to be like an American prom at all. In it, a theme and an organization of the event are prepared. You usually go as a couple, I would not do it because I have no axis, during the party, catering with food and drinks is offered, punch is famous and very popular and a DJ. I wish I had had an experience like that but ended up not having any. (24 minutes)

PRACTICE 7: DESCRIPTIVE PARAGRAPH

 1. prewriting process what is your thought about the empty streets? Gives me a feeling of freedom and sadness. do you feel anxious about this photo? Not really. it is a good feeling? It's a weird feeling between happiness for the empty streets and sadness because of the reason why they are empty. does that feeling make you want to go to Madrid? Yes, because I know it's not like that anymore. emotion: happiness topic: streets in Madrid topic sentences: this photograph of the gran via gives me a vibe of freedom.  SUPPORTIVE SENTENCE: DESCRIBE THE FEELING descriptive paragraph: This photograph of the Gran Via gives me a vibe of freedom. When you are in this type of street some people feel vulnerable because they are used to hiding behind the crowded streets to feel safe, but I get a completely different feeling. Nevertheless, we have to think about the situation in which this type of scenario occurred, we have to remember ourselves, alone, by ourselves facing a new and unknown m...

THE WORKING STUDENT

Work and study seem like the worst combination for me, I couldn't do it. After all, I'm the type of person that needs a looooot of time to do things, because first I need to organize myself and then proceed to the thing, and if I have to work I'll be distracted. I have a very near example, my mom told us that when she was in college, she was working as a secretary for a couple of hours. And she says that if can organize you and have things to the date, it's not a big deal; and actually, for the next year, I want to have a job because I want to make money for myself, and I want to be more independent. Wanting to do a lot of things at the same time and put so much weight on you, is not the perfect student; you have to know your limits and not put so much pressure on yourself. (19 minutes)

YOUR FAVOURITE SPORT TO WATCH

My favourite sport to watch, I would say its football, basically because it is the only sport I watch. My family are big fans of football, my dad is a fan of Real Madrid, and my mom of the football club Barcelona, so you can imagine how is the situation in my house when is the Clasico. I really enjoy watching it, because  I like how make you feel, I don't know how to explain it. My favourite season is when the Mundial takes place, because you have a match like every day, and even though I'm not a fan of any club in particular, (well, maybe Spain) I watch every single one. I remember that when I was like 12 years old, my family and I were watching the EuroCup's final, which was between Spain and Italy. I can recall how the people celebrate the goals or how they started cursing at the referee, and I found it very funny. Spain won and all the pub started to scream, or even let some happy tears fall, and for me was a good memory. (10 minutes)

PRACTICE 6: GIVING DEFINITIONS

describing people personality: introvert, shy, awkward, polite physical characteristics: slim, tanned, chubby, muscular description of a person: How does the person smell? What does that smell remind you of? Does that person act mature? Is she/he outgoing? description of an object: Is it big? What can you do with that object? Is it flexible? Can hurt you? A. a) instrument b) organs c) organisation d) material e) behaviour f) process g) theory h) grains B. Lecture: a formal talk on a serious subject given to a group of people, especially students. Tuberculosis: a serious infectious disease that can attack many parts of a person's body, especially their lungs. The Red Cross: an international organization that takes care of people who are suffering because of war, hunger, disease, or other problems. An idiom: a group of words in a fixed order that have a particular meaning that is different from the meanings of each word on its own. 2. A. a) failed project b) deve...

TEENAGERS

You are a citizen of the country where you live, but you do not have all the civil rights that adults enjoy. You cannot choose where to live, who to live with, or how to spend your days. You are not allowed to make your own decisions about anything. And that sucks. Teenagers endure age discrimination daily, just by looking young in some stores makes you feel more confident because they take it for granted that you are going to steal, your opinions don't matter ¨because you are too young¨, and basically, everything you do, you don't you do well. People will tell you that these are the best years of your life but they’re not. Sure, in some ways being a teenager and living at home is nice because you don’t have to deal with bills, taxes etc. But that doesn’t mean that your teenage years are the best years of your life, you still have to deal with school and all the stress that comes with it, the insecurities, the meanness of people your own age, the condescension of adults, the al...

LEARNING TO PLAY A SPORT

Learning a sport has never been difficult for me because I have always liked being active, my favourite sport when I was young was handball. I learned everything, based on practice, and some injuries; and I felt in love with the dynamics of this game. I played it for about 3 years in a row and got to play a game in which if I won I would qualify for the regionals, and that made me want to continue playing.  But when I entered high school, I left sports due to lack of time, but if I remember correctly, I practised four times a week, and my teacher taught us new techniques, etc. In the middle of my sophomore year, I was interested in badminton but because of the exams and that I was doing a little badly, my parents did not let me huddle. I think that in order to learn a sports what you have to spend the most are hours and dedication, nothing is achieved from one day to the next. ( 21 minutes)

PRACTICE 4 : REWRITING A PARAGRAPH

Any organization that allows researchers to interview its employees runs a risk, because they may complain about the boss or about other workers. The problem is that employees may feel obliged to give positive answers to questions instead of their honest opinions because they are afraid of their bosses finding out what they really think, for that reason, the reputation of the organization may suffer.  It’s the duty of researchers to ensure that this does not happen, they must make it clear why they are doing the research and maintain the anonymity of everyone involved by using fake names. If not, there is a good chance of the validity of the whole research project being threatened.

PRACTICE 3 : MY FIRST PARAGRAPH

ANIME Since I was young, I always liked watching series and movies, but last year because of the pandemic I've been more into Japanese animation. I think what I like the most is the length of the episodes, they are between 20-25 minutes, and also the different types of animation. My favourite anime is Death Note, which is about a boy who one day find a notebook, with he can kill people by just writing their name and having their face in mind. He wants to be ¨the god of the new world¨, where he is the authority and decides who live or die. Even though the synopsis seems simple and not much interesting, it's a pretty complex anime because it makes you think about what is good and what is bad. Death Note it's probable the best know anime of all time, with One Piece. Anime is something people are afraid to give a chance because they know some people still think that is for weird or geek people, and I used to think the same, but then you realised that it's more important wh...
