YOUR FIRST DAY IN THE US

If it were my first day in the United States of America, the first state I would like to visit would be New York. What I like about it, it's the lifestyle, it's like a movie, I mean, I think it would feel so unreal and overwhelming. The empire state, Central Park, The statue of liberty, I have seen these places so many times on the big screen, that being able to see it in person will be a life-changing experience in my opinion. The first thing that I would visit if I ever get the chance, will be Times Square. Because I want to know the feeling you get with all those screens and colours. Also, I would love to visit the Hotel Plaza, and the main reason is that one of my favourite movies was filmed there and because it's very iconic too. But my biggest dream is to experience winter in New York, it's just like, winter IS New York. It's complicated to explain, but I think that these are things that always go together. (24 minutes)

A FAVOURITE POSSESION

I don't consider myself a very materialistic person, but my closet is my most precious possession. My wardrobe is something in which I have invested money and time, it has been difficult for me to find my style and now that I am less happy with it, I would not like to lose it. I know it may sound very pathetic, but it's not like I have something of so much value that could compete with my clothes. I mean, my mobile, if I lose it I can buy another one, this also happens with my computer. And it is not that I have something of some family inheritance, or heirloom, for which I only have that. But the funny thing is that I have a lot of pants, hoodies, t-shirts etc but I always ended up wearing the same 5 things hahaha. (20 minutes)

MUSIC THAT IS SPECIAL TO YOU

I love love music. For me, it is the best thing in the world, it can make you feel better and can take you back to when you were young. My 15 minutes on the bus alone, listening to music are the best thing of my day, and the day I forget my headphones, that day is immediately grey. One artist I'm obsessed with lately is ROJUU; he is quite different from what I usually like, like rap or trap in English. His songs are in Spanish and it's a softer, indie vibe, and I'm super happy because I'm going to go to his concert in Murcia in February with a friend. For me, music is the language of the soul. SMOKING IN PUBLIC PLACES

I agree with the fact of smoking, but not when it is a public space and above all closed. There are children, pregnant women, or it can be annoying for some people. That is why the spaces reserved for smokers are the perfect solution, even in some countries, if you want to smoke outside the home, you must do so in the spaces reserved for them. For example, in South Korea, they have a kind of large, transparent room with ventilation in which people can go in to smoke. It is a fact that smoking is bad for your health, but since everyone can do what they want, it is better to do it without harming more people. (13 minutes)

PRACTICE 14: MY FIRST ESSAY

We live in a society where everything has to be available for everyone as soon as possible, and globalization is our best weapon. It has paved the way for global development, but progress is not "equal" as some countries integrate into the global economy more quickly than others, as seen by their rapid economic growth and lower poverty rates.  This implies that globalization does not benefit all members of the world community equally. It is more beneficial for members of industrialized countries while emerging countries are at a disadvantage. However, when it comes to the effects of globalization on developing countries, you can see both sides of the coin, as it has both beneficial and negative consequences. Globalization has benefited emerging countries in many ways. For example, it was crucial in allowing some countries to gain independence. Rising living standards is another benefit of globalization for developing countries. One of the goals of economic globalization is to...

THE BEST CAR YOU OWN

Sadly, I don't have my driving license, I've been enrolled in driving school for a year but I'm not focused on taking tests. It is something that seems very easy, but it is not and in the end, it does not help you much when it comes to getting in front of a wheel. But if I have to think that my dream car would be a not very big and automatic one; since I like 4x4 but I think it would be easier to drive a smaller one. When I was about to turn 18 I started looking at cars because I thought I was capable of getting my license in 4 months, and I found the perfect car: BMW 2 Series Coupé. It seems to me that it has everything I could need, but it is also true, that if the only thing I get is a normal car, it works the same for me since it can take me from one place to another which is in the end what I need. YOUR LAST DAY IN THE COUNTRY

If they were my last days in Spain, the first thing I would do would be to plan a short trip with my friends so that I could go out partying for the last time, and I would also spend time with my family. And on the very last day, I would have a farewell dinner. Probably my destiny would be to work, since I was little I have always been clear that I am not going to stay in Spain since the job opportunities are very few and for young people, it is so much more complicated, in addition to the fact that my career is about languages, and if I'm going abroad, it would be much better for me. So my last day would be nonstop. (15 minutes)

DISCRIMINATION

Being the son of immigrant parents is not easy, if I begin to remember my childhood, there were many moments when my parents had to face some kind of discrimination. It was something that I did not understand, people made inappropriate comments or even tried to be funny with some racist jokes. They even made me feel ashamed of where I was from, now I know that was ridiculous because no one should feel ashamed of where they are. Once I was at the bookstore, and there was a line to buy books, my mom and I were waiting for our turn but we got distracted and our number went by, and we noticed, and we say to the cashier, but then a man starts yelling at him. My mom tells him that we were there before and that only one number had passed, and he says that things here work differently than where we were, and then he continues to yell at us. I was very scared and even more surprised that no one had said anything. I know that some people may be afraid to go into it, but now that I am older I kno...

PRACTICE 12: WRITING THESIS STATEMENTS

Government surveillance NO. No privacy. You don't know exactly who is watching. Bad purposes. Thesis statement: Our privacy is one of our rights as humans and having someone watching us every day will take that right out of us. Gun ownership NO. Some people are not ready (mentally) to own a gun. You will have to pay taxes. Bad use (not for 'safety') Thesis statement:  Gun ownership has a lot of bad consequences, they should be forbidden because you have to be safe without any gun in your hands. Globalization YES. More chance to get anything for any country. Languages. More options in any situation. (help from other countries) Thesis statement: We live in a society where everything has to be available for everyone as soon as possible, and globalization is our best weapon. Changing your name YES. It can be helpful if you are not binary or trans. You have the right to do it. Good for your self-esteem. Thesis statement: Deciding to change your name is a very hard decision, but ...
